W.W.D.D ( What Would Dan Do? )

 By: Jessica Ovalle
Dan Edelman is considered to be a Public Relations Idol, who through hard work and perseverance had gained, the status, “PR juggernaut.” Dan Edelman was a man who worked into his late 80’s and would have kept going if allowed. It’s hard to fathom that he once felt insecure about his vision. However in chapter 9 of Edelman and the Rise of Public Relations, we get a glimpse of Dan’s struggle. We see how even a confident man can succumb to doubt.

Dan Edelman doubted his vision, a fact that is hardly believable with our background information.  He doubted his vision for a “family owned” company. However after visiting Edelman PR last week, we all know how the story ends.

While visiting Edelman PR I was struck with emotion, because this was Dan Edelman’s dream.  I read the book, but seeing Dan’s dream in living color, was amazing.  As I read the book over the course of the quarter, my respect for Dan Edelman grew exponentially. He was a man that went after his dreams, no matter what roadblocks. If someone told Dan “No!” he worked harder.  I found it very comforting that his legacy lives is still alive and lives on through Edelman PR.  His vision is brought to life everyday by the Edelman employees. Who still take Dan’s simple advice, and are never caught without a note pad. While Dan is gone, his morals and values live on at Edelman PR. He had a larger than life personality that left a lasting impression.  I will tell you when challenges arise in my career and I feel like giving up, I will always think W.W.D.D (what would Dan do.)
